Book Review: Pure Skin

I first met San Francisco-based Victoria Tsai, founder of boutique skincare brand Tatcha some eight years back when the range was first launched in Asia and I have been a fan of this glorious quintessential Japanese skincare ever since.

Review: Biologique Recherche @ The Greenhouse

Living many years in Asia I was fortunate enough to experience the numerous benefits of Biologique Recherche (or BR), the cult French brand that is finally making waves in this little corner of our world. Recently under the well experienced hands of Megan at The Greenhouse in Dublin's Dun Laoghaire, my skin was once again treated to the very best in BR customised facials.

Plant Powered Beauty

As regular readers may have noticed I am becoming ever more passionate about the power of plants - both on our plates and in our skincare. Fortunately more of these brands are coming to the fore, packed with honest-to-goodness plant medicine, without the toxic nasties that we now knowing are destroying our planet and our bodies.

Supreme C

Vitamin C is certainly having its moment. Every good reason too as the right product can leave skin looking and feeing smoother, brighter and more radiant and my go-to is the Supreme-C Serum Treatment by hip Scandinavian brand Nuori.

Why We Sleep

Why We Sleep by Professor Matthew Walker is a fascinating read. Basically he says that if you’re regularly clocking in at under seven hours a night, you’re doing yourself a disservice as grave as that of regularly smoking or drinking to excess. A sobering thought.

Fresh Start

I know I have said this before but cleansing the face every morning and night is an absolute must for healthy skin. FULL STOP! And by this I mean a thorough cleanse - as opposed to just moving the dirt and grime over the face with a face wipe or cloth.

Think Skin

Spring isn't far off and the daffodils are waking up - so it's time to THINK SKIN. These tips along with the best skin-loving foods will make 2018 the best year yet for the largest organ in your body- the outer you.

Young Adult Essentials

My biggest concern for the many well meaning young adults is their overuse of often inappropriate skincare - skin acids in particular - that can literally tear away the fragile outer acid mantle of the skin leaving it dangerously thin and delicate.

What makes a great facial?

Working in the the wellness/skincare industry for many years now I am regularly asked for recommendations on where to go for the best facial. My reply depends on WHO the person delivering that facial is and what products they use - both being intimately connected.

It's Booch for me please....

One of the keys to skin health and indeed health at large lies in keeping our guts happy and this is where Kombucha - or Booch as it is fondly termed - comes into its own as this sugar-sweetened fermented tea is overflowing with the bacteria needed to help our guts thrive.

My neck

Although shelves are crammed with creams dedicated to every crevice in the body (slight exaggeration I know!) in my years of trialling skincare products I've concluded that most are not worth their hefty price tag. What's more, many are thick and show up as irritating red rings around the crease lines.

Hair Blues

Us middle-years folk need to take every step possible to maintain the health of our crowning glory and the toxic combination of sun and salt has taken its chemical toll leaving my hair looking (and feeling) dull and very washed out. So, I am on a mission.....
