Relax into your Radiance
I am super excited to be joining up with the ever creative Kela Hodgins from Clonakilty’s stunning Dunowen House and the ever real, relevant and inspiring Mari Kennedy, whom regular readers will be very familiar with as I have written at length about her (see here and here for starters). Mari also contributed an rousing piece on the emotional aspects of entering the next phase of our lives in my last book Your Middle Years.
I first met with Kela a few months back in Dublin and an instant connection was made. Five years ago Kela, her husband and young family swapped corporate life and hectic schedules in Dublin for West Cork’s Dunowen House. To me and others who know her, she embodies the positive aspects of entering midlife.
“As I approach my 50th birthday, I’ve come to recognise attitude as one of the most ageing traits in people. I’m not ready to give up on my ambitions or dreams – so many of us have so much to contribute. I do recognize that to achieve this we need to be fit mentally and physically, to not stick things on the back burner while we focus on other peoples needs.” But so many of us have lived a certain way for so long and been so busy in that life that we find it hard to take the time to even consider ever living differently. We become stuck. “In developing the idea for our Radiance Retreat, I wanted to create something that spoke directly to real women approaching or in their mid-life,” Kela adds. “ Having Kate and Mari on board was so important for me – they are both experts in their fields and are real women with real experience of how to live in your midlife fully alive.”
Mari is a yoga & mindfulness teacher, womens’ developmental coach, leadership and wellbeing consultant, facilitator and so much more. After her life was completely upended in her late 30s, Mari discovered how far she was from her real self. In that revelation she chose to step off the well-travelled path and follow her passion. Since then she has been exploring and experimenting with what it means to live a full and meaningful life as a woman in the 21st century and she is always happy to share her profound wisdom and passion.
So, if you are ready to be your real self, to be relevant, to ignite your purpose and reclaim your radiance as you cross the threshold into a fulfilling midlife, then this retreat is most definitely a not-to-be-missed weekend where through a glorious fusion of yoga, wild swimming, glow skincare advice, personal enquiry and fabulous healthy food, we will help you to ….
Reassess and reset your purpose
Celebrate the wins and losses thus far
Own this liberating phase of life
Reconnect with the real you
And have some craic along the way……
Even if you just fancy a weekend away from the chaos - the award-winning Dunowen House is truly beautiful, so comfortable and Kela’s dedication to the finest detail is obvious throughout. Originally built in 1771 Dunowen has had a very colourful past with each generation leaving its signature. It is most fondly associated with Noel Redding, former bass guitarist with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. For more than 30 years Noel entertained music legends throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s at Dunowen and after his death in 2003, his ashes were interred in the garden and his spirit lives on! The setting is perfect too, with fields of gold (they were when I was there - see the photo!) and just a few minutes walk to the cleanest water I have yet swam in along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way - that is saying something!
